This paper describes a method of recording four channels of 16 bit audio data sampled at 44.1 kHz. The method uses existing Sony PCM 701 technology in conjunction with conventional VCR`s. The paper describes the techniques used to achieve this, including the methods of synchronizing the two units, the techniques for encoding and decoding the multiplexed data, concluding with a brief summary of application areas.
