Matching the Sound to the Picture

The first attempts at matching multi-channel sound to picture were made in 1911, and ever since then advances in technology to both picture and sound have, more often than not, been adopted independently. This -piggy-backing- of technology has led to many disparities between picture and sound, far removed from the synergy that would create an ideal presentation. Some historical -matches- have worked, and the current relationship between sound and picture for today`s cinema and television systems can be defined. This leads to some possible parameters of sound matching for future television systems.
