This paper looks at some of the practical problems of performing the EMC tests that will be required in order to comply with the European EMC Directive. Specific examples are given of the problems encountered when performing immunity tests on quality hi-fi equipment. Proposals for new technical standards are considered and analogies drawn with information technology equipment for which a series of product standards is being created.
