The U. K. System for Digital Stereo Sound with Terrestrial Television

The U.K. government has approved the joint BBC/IBA specification of a transmission standard for digital stereo sound with terestrial television. This sytem, which was developed by BBC engineers during the past four years, conveys two high-quality digitally coded sound signals along with the picture and mono FM sound signals of the U.K. television System 1. Extensive laboratory and over-the-air tests have proved the compatibility and reggedness of this system and optimized the choices of the modulation system and the baseband coding method. Broadcasters in the Nordic countries have adapted the U.K. syßtem for use with television Systems B and G.
