The transmission network described is comprised of a multiplicity of contiguous filters. The crossover points of the responses of adjacent filters are at the 3-db down value. The inputs to all filters are connected together and their outputs terminate in an added circuit. By providing an adjustable gain for each filter, a variable transmission characteristic is achieved. The filters were chosen to be Gaussian (i.e., their amplitude response characteristics closely approximates the shape of the Gaussian probability curve) because this type of filter has an excellent transient response and a linear phase response. This paper discusses some of the characteristics of the over-all transmission system.
