Numerous efforts have been made to design a good omnidirectional sound source. Existing designs have however failed to reproduce a broadband spectrum efficiently in all (horizontal) directions. The explanation for this is that each loadspeaker or horn construction that have dimensions which are large compared to the wavelength of the propagating sound, will have dips in the frequency pattern. The paper describes a novel design of an approximation of a (vertical) line source with a true omnidirectional radiation pattern.
