The finite element method is important in the modeling of the mechanical behaviour of loudspeaker cone assemblies. The effectiveness of the method is described in the paper, together with some recent work in estimating material damping parameters. The final stage in predicting the performance of loudspeakers is to calculate the sound pressure resulting from the diaphragm vibrations, an assessment is made of the boundary element method in this context.
