During editing or processing of digital audio, it is often desirable to be able to repeat a segment of program material several times to balance levels, to try specific equalizer settings, or to find an exact editing point. It is even more difficult to adjust a compressor/limiter and other dynamic signal processors for the program material without repeating a particularly critical point. The typical method to audition a segment of audio until now has been to rewind the tape, play it, rewind it again, and so on. A tedious task, to say the least, especially with a video recorder. This paper describes a digital audio device which stores several seconds of music for repeated playback and provides other unique timing algorithms (functions) which act upon the stored program material.
