Economic Considerations of Multiple Television Sound for the Broadcaster

Document Thumbnail

TV broadcasters must determine what type of MTS service to provide their viewers in line with the competitive situation in the marketplace. Some stations will elect to provide only synthesized stereo, others will make provisions for network-originated stereo, still others will install facilities for playback of feature films and syndicated tapes in stereo, and finally there will be those stations that will want to produce programs in stereo. Additionally, the broadcaster must determine if the use of the SAP and PRO channels is desirable. Once the broadcaster has answered these questions, conversion of the plant can be planned and implemented.: Conversion of a television broadcast plant to MTS creates four major areas of concern: 1) Transmission facilities; 2) Master Control switching, distribution, and video tape machines; 3) Studio audio control facilities; and 4) Postproduction facilities.
