Tunable Active Crossover Networks

The design and implementation of active crossover networks satisfying simultaneously the all-pass complementary and the power complementary properties are discussed. This class of crossover networks can have the most common types of amplitude responses, including the Butterworth, Chebyshev, inverse Chebyshev, and elliptic characteristics. The active RC implementation of an N th order, N odd, crossover network takes the form of two parallel connected all-pass circuits. The structure is independent of the type of the amplitude response and is canonical in the number of capacitors. The crossover frequency can be tuned by varying N equal-valued capacitors or equivalently by N equal-valued resistors.
