The ability to accurately predict expected levels of speech intelligibility is a primary concern regarding acoustic design. Various techniques established for assessing speech intelligibility are compared with respect to accuracy and correlation with measured results. The capability of such techniques to accurately determine early reflection and reverberation impact on speech intelligibility is likewise discussed. The use of these analysis procedures and their respective limitations are reviewed with an emphasis on practical acoustic and sound system design applications.
