Sound Conditioning--Bringing an Improved Working Atmosphere to Open Plan Offices

Over plan office design has become more and more prevalent over the past few years. To the planner it gives maximum flexibility in the use of available space and to the employee, working in a properly designed scheme, it gives spacious, pleasantly -landscaped- surroundings. Very often, however, unforeseen and undesired effects may be noticed by the office staff. The high acoustic damping found in open plan office design, and provided by screens, carpets and absorbent ceilings, can create an atmosphere in which staff feel somewhat isolated, and as a consequence, psychologically uncomfortable.
