This paper serves as an introduction to the Women in Audio session. The relative dearth of women in audio stems from several factors. These include historical factors, which date back to the Industrial Revolution, and social factors, which affect women`s acquaintance with technology. Some suggestions to improve the acceptance of women in audio are given. However, there are indeed women working in audio right now, and a few of them are highlighted here.
