Using Basic Energy Time Curve (ETC) Measurements

Document Thumbnail

Energy Time Curve (ETC) measurements were originated by Richard C. Heyser early in the 1960s. ETC measurements are used by the authors as part of a comprehensive measurement system of time, energy, frequency (TEF-) licensed under the Heyser-California Institute Research Foundation patents. This paper presents basic ETC nomenclature, methodology, and displays. Interpretations of actual measurements stressing fundamental acoustic insights that ETC allow will be given. A brief discussion of the psychoacoustic priority of temporal patterning relative to musicians and mixing engineers will be included. There will be demonstrations of ETC measurements including examples of time of travel, distance of travel, direction of arrival, and 1/r corrected view of reflective surfaces.
