Introduction of sound to Hollywood, over 30 years ago, revolutionized the motion picture industry and provided the main basis for its subsequent maturity and growth. Amateur movies have been made almost from the start of the motion picture industry, yet until the introduction of the Fairchild Cinephonic 8 camera and projector in May 1960, no quantity-produced sound movie equipment was available for the amateur. This paper is intented to outline certain of the problems which had to be met in making it possible to add the important element of synchronous sound to 8mm amateur films.
