A New Sound Localization Control System for Stereophonic Recording

Document Thumbnail

A new method of localizing a sound in the frontal half plane (from side to side) of a listener, including localization at a closer distance in 2-channel stereophonic sound, is proposed. The method is such that signals with respect to actual and phantom loudspeakers are controlled by the intensity stereo theory. A control system utilizing 4-channel panpots has been constructed, and the experimental results show that it works quite satisfactorily.
