Improving the Stereo Headphone Sound Image

A circuit is described that greatly reduces the phenomena of -in-head localization- and unnaturally high separation of sound sources which are normally encountered with stereophonic headphone listening. The circuit provides delayed crossfeed signal paths between between the two channels, which simulate the conditions encountered with loudspeaker listening, and which results in a considerably more natural headphone sound image. Although it is more elaborate than some previously described circuits, the complexity has been kept to the minimum necessary for satisfactory performance, and it is suitable for general use.
