A common form of audio-frequency amplifier which exhibits one type of transient distortion, first-stage clipping, is modeled. From this model a design criterion is derived by which such distortion is avoided. The effect of low-pass filtering the amplifier input signal is investigated and some important factors in the design of a transient-distortion-free amplifier are discussed.
