Listening to underwater sounds requires that such problems as high static pressures, large dynamic range, wide frequency response, motion of the hydrophone relative to themedium, and watertightness be solved. This paper will describe the various hydrophones in use, and indicate the development of the piezoelectric cylinder as meeting the aforementioned requirements.
