Some Considerations for Tape Recorder Bias Oscillator Design

Document Thumbnail

Bias oscillators are fundamentally required in audio (analog) tape recorders to linearize the tape's modulation transfer function (MTF). This paper presents a review of the requirements imposed upon the bias oscillator. The topics of 1) the bias oscillator as a source of radio-frequency-interference (RFI) to other circuits in the tape recorder, as well as 2) the circuit integrity required of the bias oscillator in order to record ultimate-fidelity analog signals, are treated.
