Just what the world needs-another dynamic noise filter! But, given a perceptive operator, this one really works. The paper discusses the fundamental limitations of program-controlled noise filters, as well as psychoacoustical design criteria. A new noise filter is described which is essentially a program-controlled graphic equalizer. Control is based on the energy in the various frequency bands and on statistical analysis of the input signal. Emphasis is placed on the mathematical design of the bandpass filters.
