A detailed description of the transistorized replay-preamplifier of a high quality studio recorder is given. The various noise sources in the circuit are listed, with the estimate of their respective contribution to the total output noise of the amplifier. The considerations leading to the use of an operational amplifier scheme are briefly discussed. The basic measurement methods for the evaluation of the circuit are described and the quality parameters measured on the circuit are displayed.
