Additional Sound Channels and Stereophonic Transmission in Television

Document Thumbnail

This paper reviews the two methods under discussion in the EBU Subgroup "Additional Sound Channels in Television." The additional sound channel should be suitable for transmitting information which is independent of that in the first channel (different languages), as well as for stereophonic transmission. The two recommended methods are the FM/FM multiplex system, which was developed in Sweden and in Japan and the double-carrier-system, which was developed in the IRT-Munich.
