A means of reducing the apparent noise in F. M. Stereo with no reduction of frequency response is presented. The method makes inter-channel separation a function of program level, exchanging separation for an improve signal to noise ratio at low volume levels. The psychoacoustic principles behind its operation and the qualitative results of listening tests on an experimental version are given.
