Lacquer masters have not materially improved in quality since the advent of stereo discs. Need for improvement has been demonstrated by progress in disc technology, particularly video and 4-channel. The paper reviews materials and designs of lacquers and describes improvements achieved in Capitol: s new disc plant. Manufacturing facilities and processes are described and illustrated.
