The use of tape recorders in conjunction with Real Time Electronic Music is similar to the tape recorder`s application in the studio. In the studio, sounds are altered, repeated, and delayed through various techniques, and there is time to experiment with sounds which may or may not be heard in the final composition. In real time, this luxury is not possible; ease of operation, adaptability, and control are the areas of primary concern. This paper will deal with the problems of use of the tape recorder in real time situations and demonstrates some solutions.
