Nortronics has completed a thorough evaluation of a new wear-resistant 5-80 permalloy core material recently developed on a pilot basis by Carpenter Technology. This material contains small wear-resistant particles dispersed throughout. The new material, WEAR-RESISTANT HV MU 800 has been shown to be ten times more wear resistant than Carpenter`s HY MU 80 without any appreciable sacrifices in head performance. Magnetic, mechanical, and wearability properties of the new material will be discussed and actual head performance data shown.
