Telephone receivers are made to very close tolerances in order to maintain the high sensitivity which is required. With the coming era of electronic telephones a greater degree of freedom in transducer design is possible. A balanced armature receiver has been designed and its experimental characteristics compared to, and optimized by the use of an electrical analog model. Design considerations took account of the best use of manufacturing methods and material consumption assuring good economy. The behavior of such a receiver is presently based on 50 experimental units. This is a textbook example of how to attack an electroacoustic problem.
