Wave Field Synthesis Auralization of Finite-Element and Boundary-Element Vibroacoustic Models

Wave Field Synthesis (WFS) is a spatial audio method that allows for auralization over an extended listening space and for a multi-listener experience. WFS is generally only suitable for simple and canonical extended virtual sources. It is not yet fully adapted to numerical simulation methods, such as the finite element method (FEM) and the boundary element method (BEM). We propose an auralisation workflow combining either FEM or BEM with WFS, for both coupled (vibroacoustic) and uncoupled (vibration) problems. This workflow is numerically validated for two FEM models. Results show that, despite some expected errors between the reproduced field and the target sound field, the sound pressure and acoustic intensity fields are well reproduced, providing new auralization possibilities for WFS.
