On the Processing of Two- and Three-Channel Program Material for Four-Channel Playback

Document Thumbnail

The present library of two- and three-track master tapes will not necessarily obsolesce with the emergence of four-channel stereos. Where the musical intent is of the direct-reverberant sort, most of this material can be reprocessed by means of appropriate time delay, artificial reverberation, and equalization in a way that simulates four-channel recording in a normal environment. Techniques will be discussed in detail.
