UMX matrices provide optimal-localization directivity patterns with balance-invariant symmetry and orientation. These advantages over sum-difference matrixing permit specification of two low-distortion low-noise noncompandor narrow-band FM channels for linear time-invariant combination with optimal mono-stereo compatible baseband matrix channels. Development of this discrete-matrix QMX disc, with audio bandwidth to 18 kHz, top frequency below kHz, and simplified cutting, processing, and playing, is described.
