Active Loudspeakers

Document Thumbnail

This tutorial paper covers many of the benefits that active electronic elements can bring to a loudspeaker design, and compares the effectiveness of these designs to passive systems. There are numerous possibilities for improving the low-frequency performance in an active loudspeaker and this is described in detail. By designing the amplification specific to the application large gains in efficiency and effectiveness are available. The paper emphasizes design synthesis and ends with a summary of the additional benefits brought by DSP.
