The moving coil principle has dominated loudspeaker design philosophy for over thirty years. A review of the basic physics involved, and various design considerations, are presented. Methods of controlling coil impedance variations, power handling considerations, material selections, voice coil temperature rise data, demagnetization, and the effects of coil parameters on overall loudspeaker performance are discussed.
