Spatial Parameter Decision by Least Squared Error in Parametric Stereo Coding and MPEG Surround

Parametric stereo coding (PS) and MPEG Surround (MPS) are used to reconstruct stereo or multi-channel signals from down-mixed signals with the spatial parameters. These spatial parameters are transmitted based on the resolution of the time-frequency (T-F) tile. The T-F resolution controls the accuracy of reconstructed spatial scenes and the amount of consumed bits. In PS and MPS coding, the up-mixing matrices based on the spatial parameters for time slots not transmitted are reconstructed in decoder by interpolating the neighboring up-mixing matrices. The estimation of the spatial parameters on time-frequency tile with consideration to the interpolation errors is another issue. This paper proposes a generic dynamic programming method to decide the time-frequency tile and the transmitted parameter values.
