The author is concerned first of all to eliminate the listening test as not only an impracticably unquantitative, variable and unstandardisable approach, but one for which its own validity demands all the setting-up objectivity that is associated with, and involves, the technical tests in any case. Present technical tests are criticized and alternatives posed. A single simpler all-embracing test that better serves and suits the salesman as well as the technician, is offered for standardization.
