Reproducing spatial impression is one of the principal aims of multichannel audio. This paper introduces a study of minimum number of loudspeakers to reproduce a diffuse sound field, making it clear that a 5.1 loudspeaker arrangement, according to ITU-R BS 775-1 [1], can reproduce a diffuse sound field. Microphone techniques for reproducing spatial impression in a concert hall will also be discussed in detail.
