Four Channels and Compatibility

Requirements for wide acceptance of four channels are discussed. A wide system designed to meet these requirements is described. In this system, linear combination provides high isolation between signals in diagonally opposite loudspeakers, while crosstalk to adjacent speakers is reduced by a symmetrically applied variable gain function having a control voltage derived from the audio signal itself.
