This paper will discuss the history and development of theatre installation practices since the 1970s, together with an insight into the broad-ranging role of the Production Sound Engineer. Following on from the history, it looks at the implications of changing technology. Much of the focus shows the relationship between the installation requirements and the rental company`s perspective.
