The use of controlled-length tone bursts for evaluating the low-frequency response of loudspeakers in the reverberant field of ordinary rooms is explored. Compared with conventional signals such as stepped sine waves and various noise signals, tone bursts offer a number of practical advantages and in addition enable a rapid subjective evaluation of the system.
