Digital Audio for Radio Network Satellite Distribution Systems
The distribution of audio by radio networks has in the past been accomplished mainly through the use of leased telephone lines. To improve the quality of the audio received, increase the flexibility of the distribution system, and control rising costs, a digital audio distribution system usin C-band satellite communications links has been developed. Channels with flat frequency respone from 40 Hz to 15 kHz, better than 80 dB dynamic range, and THD of less than 0.3% are available in the new system. The ABC, NBC, CBS, and RKO radio networks will be using this system for the delivery of audio and data to their affiliates.
