Surround Sound in the Eighties: Localization and Psychoacoustics

Extension of stereophony to more than two loudspeakers has required new approaches to localization theories. Several of these are discussed, and an evaluation of subjective and objective performance with respect to head rotation and listener location in the listening room is presented, with a discussion of the optimum surround sound technology to exploit these performance aspects.
