Power Response of Loudspeakers with Non-Coincident Drivers: The Influence of Crossover Design

This paper analyzes the acoustic power response of a loudspeaker having separated drivers, using mainly a simple monopole model. We show how different crossover types cause excess or suppressed power response at the crossover frequency. By proper choice of phase relationships between drivers, one can achieve least coloration of the reverberant response, at the expense of good axial behavior. A symmetrical configuration of two low-frequency drivers and one high-frequency driver is analyzed which can provide good axial behavior but its power response is not improved.
