An Erasable CD Compatible Magneto-Optical Disc Recorder
By employing the new and unique technology of magneto-optical materials, we have developed an erasable digital audio disk recorder which is compatible with existing CD players. This reorder/player which uses a 120-mm pregrooved disk contains a CD-compatible optical head assembly, a disk-driving unit, and a digital signal processor. Our testing of the unit has yielded the following performance data: The audio signal level characteristics are exactly the same as those for conventional CD players, the bit error rate is in the order of 10-5, and the signal-to-noise ratio is greater that 50 dB. In this paper, we will present the fundamental construction and functional highlights of this system.
