Concept and Realization of a Modular Edit Code Synchronizer

The initial concept and evolution to final product of an in-machine edit code synchronizer is described. A brief explanation of the capabilities of this equipment, with further explanation of the reasoning behind these features from a technical as well as an end-user point of view is tendered. A patent-pending approach to accomplishing graceful control of tape transports as utilized by the synchronizer is revealed. The hardware environment within the synchronizer, as well as the requirements placed upon tape transports for such a synchronizer to function optimally, is described.
