Acoustic investigations often require elementary but repeated evaluation of spreadsheet-like data fields. Since more and more portable personal computers become available, they allow rapid calculations "on site" or in consultations at construction, where immediate decisions are required. The presented paper describes the capabilities of spreadsheet programs for those applications. They may simplify program development considerably compared with higher languages such as Basic, Fortran, or Pascal, and provide easy to take in at a glance results.
