The design objective centered on building a low-distortion sine-wave generator that could be battery operated and controlled by a hand-held computer using the HP-IL standard. The almost exclusive use of JFET and CMOS devices helped realize the objectives of <.25% THD from 1 Hz to 50 kHz, programmable attenuator and stereo output control using digital synthesis for frequency accuracy, and tracking analog filters for good distortion specifications. The unit runs on two 6-volt batteries and draws less than 1 watt.
