Synthesized Test Signals for Digital Audio

Document Thumbnail

An investigation of synthesised test signals for linearity testing of digital audio systems is described. Results show how 'digital' or quantising distortion may be measured separately from 'analogue' or harmonic distortion. The importance of digital signal processing in the measurement system is discussed. An objective measurement method is presented which gives better correlation with subjective assessments of sound quality impairment than total harmonic distortion.
