SR4 - Mixing for Immersive Live Sound Events

Chair:
Shane Myrbeck, ARUP - San Francisco, CA, USA; Sound Artist (Independent) - Oakland, CA, USA
Panelists:
Paul Chavez, Harman Professional Solutions - Northridge, CA, USA
Danny Echevarria, Independent Sound Designer / Four Larks Junkyard Opera
Ryan Ingebritsen, Independent Composer, Sound Designer, Sound Artist, Electronic Musician, and Sound Engineer - Chicago, IL, USA; University of Illinois Chicago School of Theater and Music

Abstract:
Spatial audio production relies on a combination of psychoacoustic cues, contextual expectations of sonic space, and when done well, a sense of surprise and wonder at being immersed in a new soundscape. The means to achieve this involves a variety of multichannel loudspeaker and panning formats including ambisonics, vector-based panning systems, WFS, and bespoke arrays of nearly any description. This panel will include sound designers, artists, technical production staff and sound system/room acoustic designers discussing techniques for live production across a variety of immersive audio formats. Discussions will range from methods for creating and manipulating content for sonic space to local monitoring techniques to 3D production interfaces.
