Powerful low distortion sound systems and personal portable sound devices make it easy to inflict a noise dose on people big enough to render a temporary or permanent hearing loss and/or tinnitus. Such a hearing loss is a serious handicap, which cannot be cured. This tutorial will explain some of the basics about hearing; difficulties in getting adequate measures of "music noise"; tinnitus and how to cope with it; and experiments with new discotheques designed with good acoustics in order to reduce the risk of getting hearing loss. |
