119th AES CONVENTION PRESS RELEASE
NEW YORK: With topics ranging from Next Generation Audio Communications to inquiries into Feeling Sound and Hearing Meaning, the 119th AES Convention Workshops represent an extraordinary amalgam of high-level expertise. The AES Technical Council and Workshops Chair, Alan Silverman, have assembled a remarkably diverse program of 14 workshops led by of some of the worlds most respected engineers, designers, consultants and educators. AES Executive Director Roger Furness reports that, Interest in these events is already running high. The Convention, which has attracted over 400 exhibitors, and anticipates as many as 20,000 attendees, will be held at NYs Jacob Javits Center, October 7 10, 2005.
Alan Silverman, a multiple Grammy-nominated engineer with credits such as Norah Jones, Chaka Khan and Cheap Trick, The Kinks and Bebo Valdes, selected Workshop subjects designed to provide attendees with useful, real-world techniques and applications. To counterbalance this program he included a variety of forward-looking topics. Workshops include:
FRIDAY, OCT. 7
9:00AM: Surround Sound - A Chance For Enhanced Creativity, Led by Martha de
Francisco (McGill University), this workshop will kick off the convention with
stellar studio panelists George Massenburg, Bob Ludwig, Richard King and
Everett Porter, each an internationally recognized engineer.
3:30PM: Pre Fab Acoustics For The Audio Production Environment, John Storyk
(Walters-Storyk Design Group) has assembled an expert panel to discuss new
developments and affordable innovations in this critical area of studio design.
Panelists include: Peter DAntonio, (RPG Diffuser Systems), Chris Bowman,
CHBO Construction, Jeff Szymanski (Auralex Acoustics), and Russ Berger
(Russ Berger Design Group)

Cirrus Logic, USA.
4:30PM: Hearing Meaning in Machine Listening, led by Dan Ellis, Columbia
University, USA
SUNDAY, OCT. 9
2:00PM: Performance Issues In Digital Audio, Led by Dan Lavry, Lavry
Engineering, USA
4:30PM: Beyond Clicks, Pops and Hiss: New Strategies for High Fidelity
Restoration, Led by Jamie Howarth, Plangent Processes, USA
MONDAY, OCT. 10
2:30: Mixing With In-Ear Monitors: The Whys, The Hows, and How Much is
Too Much?: Bob Schulein RBS Consultants, Michael Santucci, Sensaphonics, and
Rachel Cruz, House Ear Institute, discuss maintaining happy and healthy ears, an
issue of paramount concern to audio pros.
3:00PM: Academia Meets The Industry, The Future of Audio and Music
Research. Dr. John Strawn, co-founder of Yamaha Music Technologies, USA
and Chairman of the 117th AES Convention will lead a discussion focused on
the collaboration between the academic and real-world music communities.

Like all our volunteer Committee Chairs, Alan Silverman has devoted an enormous amount of his time to this years AES Convention program, said Convention Chair Jim Anderson. The Workshops he has developed reflect this combination of knowledge and dedication, and we greatly appreciate his effort.
